Pronunciation – /e/ vs /ɛ/

The ending sounds of many of the passé composé and imparfait forms are produced with the tongue in the front of the mouth, so they can be sometimes difficult to distinguish. By definition, the /e/ sound is produced with the tongue slightly higher in the mouth than the /ɛ/ sound.
