Numbers
21-69
The numbers 21-69 follow a similar pattern, with a new unique word being used for each grouping of ten that is then combined with the numbers 21-69.

For numbers ending with ‘et un’, the grammatical gender of any associated noun needs to be considered. If that noun is grammatically feminine, then ‘et une’ is required. This is similar to the usage of indefinite singular articles.
e.g.
Il y a quarante et un camarades de classe. |
There are forty-one classmates. |
Il y a quarante et une questions. |
There are forty-one questions. |
The (non-)use of a hyphen is important for the correct use of these numbers. Without a hyphen, one may consider some of these numbers as just two separate numbers side-by-side. In speech, the hyphen is shown by the lack of a pause between the two parts of the word.
