Numbers 100+
The numbers involve some unique words combined with all the numbers up to 100.
Numbers 100+ - Les nombres supérieures à 100
Most powers of 10 have their own unique form. All numbers in between follow the same patterns as seen in the numbers 1-99.
100 |
cent |
1 000 |
mille |
101 |
cent un |
1 001 |
mille un |
200 |
deux cents |
1 000 000 |
un million |
500 |
cinq cents |
100 000 000 |
cent millions |
900 |
neuf cents |
1 000 000 000 |
un milliard |
Other than 100, all exact hundreds have the plural ‘cents’. If not an exact hundred, the plural ‘s’ disappears.
e.g.
222 |
deux cent vingt-deux |
For the numbers 100 and 1000, the indefinite singular article ‘un’ is not used, unlike in English (a/one hundred, a/one thousand). This is not true, however, for ‘un million’ and ‘un milliard’.
e.g.
1 999 |
mille neuf cent quatre-vingt-dix-neuf |
1 261 000 000 |
un milliard deux cent soixante-et-un millions |
For multiples of 1000, no plural ‘s’ is added.
e.g.
10 000 |
dix mille |
